Hanging decorations made from natural materials appear in diverse European folklore traditions. Be it the Polish decorative Pajaki, the Scandinavian geometrical Himmeli, the Ukrainian Pavuk, or the Czech Muší ráj, they hide entire universes woven within them and also traditionally protect their homes. The decorations often depict stylized stars, the sun, earthly symbols, or metaphysical figures. These will all inspire us, and we will create our hanging objects to decorate our homes or to harness their magic powers – they can do both.
To make them, we will use straw, soaked white peas, plush, crepe paper, tracing paper, wooden beads, and patience. You can also incorporate your own materials into the object (such as a cut piece of your favorite piece of clothing or a bead from a torn bracelet), feel free to bring them along.
Markéta Krčková likes to make things with her hands. In her artwork, she processes various materials, including scraps and waste. Paper, fabric or weeds become installations for display windows or interiors and also objects for decorating her own home.
The sources of inspiration for her work include stylized plants, garden magic, folklore traditions, and folklore symbols. Markéta teaches courses on painting with plant pigments and other topics and methods connected to artephiletics, a form of art therapy, at various institutions, and she also works as an art therapist.
To attend the Pajaki workshop, reservation is required, a maximum of 8 attendees. Sign up HERE. Price 500kč.
